A quick overview of both projects.

First, the houses by Neutelings:

A typical section

The front façade

The rear façade.

In a city plan designed by Adriaan Geuze of bureau West 8, Neutelings created a row of dwellings that consists of three types of houses. When looking at the façade of the houses this does not become apparent, in fact it's very hard to tell the differences between the houses from the outside. The houses are intertwined very much like a Chinese puzzle, though a relatively simple one. The three types of houses together seem like two from the outside.

Second, the block by Diener&Diener:

An overview of the location (model).

A model of the building block.

View from the bridge to the island

Since this Block is not built yet, we had to translate the available drawings and other information into a three dimensional representation to study. We did so in three different ways: first a model of the city plan with the building in it, second a model of the building itself, and third a representation of the building in its surroundings in a 3D computer model.

When driving towards the Java/KNSM-island over the bridge you'll enter the island in-between the two parts of the building block. In this manner the block serves as a gateway to the island. The block also makes the connection between the KNSM (right hand side on the pic's) and Java (left hand side on the pic's) island, by continuing the (big blocks) typology of the KNSM island onto the Java island.
